We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. We looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name implies that the GE Profile series targets those who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchen. This fridge has them all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive and I expected more.

Apart from that minor flaw the fridge is a fantastic choice. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen foods in comparison to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment is 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It also has a decent sized ice maker in the left door, but it's not the biggest I've seen.

The drawers are easy to open and shut, but I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you would expect from a refrigerator within this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked and when the fridge or freezer requires defrosting, and when the filter requires a change.

It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill which is an option that is available in a handful of other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to disperse simultaneously. The fridge shows a countdown to show you how much water remains, but it's not as effective as Precise Fill.

The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for tall items. There's also a full-width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker, making it easy to move the ice when needed. The freezer also comes with innovative design features such as sliding drawers that allow you to organize your belongings. It also has a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food and an container for storing ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your fridge using your smartphone. It's a simple way to monitor your fridge and manage it, particularly when you're away from home.

It's also less expensive than the best counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, making it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as attractive as its rivals however, it does have enough features to make it a good choice.
